We are all better Global Citizens because of the time we spend together! Talk about energy....wow! The Beveridge students make us laugh, surprise us with thoughtful comments, and always make us feel welcome! These guys know a lot about the world, too!!

Together we created a huge banner with doors that tell about who we are and photos of architecture that represent us and our countries!
Shokrun (Thank YOU in Arabic....not sure of spellling) to Maytha and Rose for doing the Arabic lettering!

Our class had the opportunity to pack weekend food backpacks for almost 800+ kids!

A huge thanks to the folks at the UNION for welcoming us and letting us lend a hand. We got to help build a greenhouse that will maintain plants throughout the winter, plant seeds for use in the spring, and create holiday decorations to be used at the neighborhood Christmas party. You guys are really making a difference in our community and know that you have our support! We can't wait to see how your impact will continue to grow...and we're glad we've gotten to be a little part of that!"

Thursday, November 14, we celebrated International Education Week in a big way!
About 35 eighth graders from our Beveridge Middle School partnership descended on UNO just in time for lunch. Compliments of Service Learning, we were able to eat together in the cafeteria and continue conversations we began the last time we visited Beveridge. The eighth grade students also began asking the questions they had prepped for a day of interviews at Cafe Internationale.
Getting henna painted on our hands, sipping Arabic coffee, looking at ipads loaded with photos of various countries, wearing traditional dress from Oman, peering through Chinese money that was see-through, sharing about our partnership in a room set aside for Service Learning presentations, taking photos, laughing, cheering, celebrating what it means to be alive and actually make friends with people from all over the world!!......that was our day.
Thanks to our Beveridge partners for your energy, questions, knowledge, and humor. It was a great day!!

PSAs (Public Service Announcements), letters, and Omani traditional dance...our day of collaboration with Beveridge International Eighth Graders was a huge success! Without a moment to spare we got to discuss the challenges and benefits of living abroad, the values of cross-cultural relationships, and what it means to be a "Global Citizen."
How do you communicate in 30 seconds what it means to have friendships with people from all over the world?! Our PSAs will reveal the answer to that question...but I'll tell you it involves maps, colored paper, handshakes, flags, smiles, Arabic, Korean, German, Japanese, Tajik, Spanish and a huge amount of creativity under pressure!! Thanks to Beveridge for your wonderful welcome and insightful questions. As our students said, "They rock!"

Germany, Tajikistan, Korea, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Japan....our students are from all over the world. As we began to get to know one another today there were many smiles. At the end of these next 8 weeks we will know so much more about one another.
